You Won’t Believe How Magical a Hot Air Balloon Ride in Cairns Can Be!
If you’re visiting Cairns and looking for a truly unique way to experience the region, I can’t recommend Hot Air Ballon Cairns enough. Our sunrise hot air balloon ride with transfers from the city wasn’t just breathtaking, it was filled with warm hospitality, unforgettable moments, and views that made this one of the most dreamy highlights of our entire trip.
Early Morning Pickup: Stress-Free Start
We booked the package that includes Cairns city transfers, and it was incredibly convenient. The night before, we received a text from our driver confirming the exact pickup time and location, along with a live tracking link so we could see exactly where the shuttle was at all times.
We were picked up around 4 a.m. Our driver, Brownie, was incredibly friendly and chatty. He gave us a great overview of the day’s itinerary, made the one-hour drive to the Atherton Tablelands feel quick and enjoyable. Outside the window, it was still pitch black, but the anticipation kept building.
Upon arriving in Mareeba, the driver stopped briefly at the Mareeba Heritage Centre so everyone could use the restrooms. (Quick tip: Definitely go while you can, the next opportunity won’t be until the ride back!)
Before Dawn: Watching the Balloons Come to Life
We reached the launch field while it was still dark. The crew was already hard at work inflating three massive hot air balloons. The sound of the burners roaring, combined with the sight of the enormous balloons slowly rising and lighting up in the glow of the flames, was absolutely spectacular, it felt like a private balloon festival just for us.
Following the crew’s instructions, we climbed one by one into the basket. The pilot Neil gave a quick safety briefing for landing, the burners from the nearby balloons kept firing with a loud whoosh, and with the whole team working together, our balloon gently lifted off the ground.
The feeling of floating upward was surreal. Even though we knew we were leaving the earth behind, the sturdy basket felt completely safe, turning what could have been nervous into a calm, light, and magical sensation.
Sunrise from the Sky, Layers of Changing Scenery
We took off before dawn, watching the world slowly brighten beneath us. Morning mist floated gently over the landscape like a soft veil. Soon, the sky shifted from soft pinks and blues to glowing gold as the sun began to peek through the clouds. We were frantically snapping photos, trying to capture every second of this rare moment.
From high above, the views unfolded beautifully, open paddocks gave way to lush tropical rainforest, then transitioned into quieter rural areas. We were even lucky enough to spot wild wallabies hopping across the fields below, just like a perfect little surprise that made the whole experience feel even more special.
The flight lasted around 60 minutes (depending on the wind), but every single minute felt like gliding through a living postcard.
Gentle Landing & Team Effort
Our landing was smooth and gentle. The crew was there with big smiles to welcome us back to earth. Then came one of my favourite parts: everyone pitched in to help deflate and fold the huge balloon. It was a lovely team effort that made the experience feel shared and even more memorable.
Would I Recommend It?
Absolutely! If you ever have the chance to visit Cairns, don’t miss this opportunity to see the Atherton Tablelands from above. The pick-up transfer option is highly recommended, it saves you the hassle of driving early in the morning and lets you catch a bit more sleep.

Practical Tips:
• The departure is very early (usually 3–4 a.m. pickup), so get a good rest the night before.
• Wear comfortable, layered clothing, it can be chilly on the Atherton Tablelands in the early morning.
• Bring your camera or phone with plenty of storage, you’ll be taking photos non-stop!

如果你來到凱恩斯，總想找一個能從完全不同角度看這片土地的體驗，那我強烈推薦你試試熱氣球凱恩斯之旅（Hot Air Ballon Cairns) 我們這趟從市區出發的熱氣球之旅，不僅風景震撼，還充滿了溫暖的人情味和難忘的小細節，絕對是這趟澳洲旅行中最夢幻的一章。
早起接送，輕鬆出發
這次我們選擇的行程包含凱恩斯市區接送服務，真的超方便！前一天晚上就會收到司機的簡訊，確認隔天的接送時間和地點，還會附上司機的即時定位連結，讓你不用一直盯著時鐘，隨時知道車子在哪裡。
一大早（大概凌晨四點多），我們搭上接駁車，司機 Brownie 超級熱情，一路上不停跟我們聊今天行程的流程、注意事項，還分享一些當地有趣的小故事。車程約一個小時，沿路從凱恩斯開往阿瑟頓高原（Atherton Tablelands），天還沒亮，車窗外一片漆黑，卻讓人越來越期待。
抵達馬里巴（Mareeba）後，司機會先帶大家到馬里巴傳統中心（Mareeba Heritage Center）短暫停靠，讓大家使用洗手間。這裡我一定要提醒大家：一定要把握機會上廁所！因為下一站就是熱氣球起飛空地，之後要等到回程才有洗手間可用喔。
天還沒亮，熱氣球已經開始「甦醒」
到了起飛空地，天色還很暗，我們就看到工作人員已經忙碌起來。他們正在為巨大的熱氣球充氣，三顆熱氣球一字排開，火焰燃燒的「呼呼」聲此起彼落，橘紅色的火光映照在漸漸鼓起的氣球上，那畫面真的超級震撼！
大家聽從指導員的指示，一個接一個小心爬進籃子。飛行員Neil先簡單說明降落時的注意事項，旁邊其他熱氣球的火焰聲不斷響起，在全體工作人員同心協力下，我們的熱氣球就這樣緩緩離開地面，開始漂浮。
那種感覺很奇妙，明明知道自己正在慢慢升空，但腳下的籃子堅固又穩當，完全沒有太強的不安感，反而是一種輕盈又安心的漂浮體驗。
高空看日出，風景層層展開
我們從黎明前開始飛行，眼前的世界從漆黑逐漸轉亮。下方的曠野、晨霧輕輕飄浮，像給整片風景披上一層薄紗。不久後，天空從粉紅混著粉藍的色調，慢慢透出金黃色的光芒。我們趕緊拿起相機，拼命捕捉這難得的日出瞬間。
從高空俯瞰，景色一路變化：先是開闊的田野，接著漂浮到茂密的熱帶雨林上空，最後慢慢回到人煙較少的居住區。我們還很幸運地看到下方有野生的小袋鼠（wallabies）在跳躍，那一刻真的覺得整趟旅行都值得了！
飛行時間大概 60 分鐘左右（視風向而定），但每一分鐘都像在看一幅會移動的明信片。
溫柔著陸 + 團隊合作收氣球
熱氣球輕輕觸地後，工作人員立刻熱情地迎接我們。大家一起動手，把原本巨大膨脹的熱氣球一點一點折疊收拾起來。這種眾人合作的過程，讓整趟體驗不只是「搭乘」，而是真正參與其中的美好回憶。
